The mission of Adult Basic Education in Minnesota is to provide adults with educational opportunities to acquire and improve their literacy skills necessary to be self-sufficient and to participate effectively as productive workers, family members, and citizens. Along with supporting the above mission statement, Southwest ABE prioritizes the goal of assisting students in gaining skills to obtain meaningful employment. Southwest ABE sees the priority of employment training as the most effective means of assisting our students in all areas of their lives.

"... the goals of adult education is all about giving people the skills they need to get a job," In 2004, consortiums joined to form Southwest Adult Basic Education (SW ABE). Southwest ABE is one of 43 consortiums throughout the state of Minnesota and encompasses all or parts of 20 counties in the southwest corner of Minnesota and includes 51 school districts.  The geographic area represents nearly 1/5 of Minnesota. Due to the large area represented, the consortium is divided into 3 regions, Marshall, Granite Falls, and Worthington/Jackson.  There are several types of adult basic education programs offered by Southwest ABE, including GED and English as a Second Language classes. Visit our Programs page for a complete list of programs.
