For over 50 years, Southside Services has been dedicated to empowering youth and adults with developmental disabilities. Our mission is rooted in a strengths- and relationship-based philosophy that celebrates each person’s abilities and promotes full community inclusion.

We offer three core programs — Community Connections, Therapeutic Recreation, and School-Based Connections — each designed to meet individual needs and foster independence.

Community Connections: Building Independence, One Step at a Time

Our Community Connections Program provides individualized, one-on-one support to help clients develop daily living skills, build confidence, and engage fully in their communities. Whether it’s learning to navigate public transportation, budgeting for groceries, or volunteering locally, this program empowers individuals to live more independently and achieve their personal goals.

Therapeutic Recreation: Creating Opportunities for Socialization and Growth

Through our Therapeutic Recreation Program, clients participate in community-based activities that encourage friendship, wellness, and inclusion. From group outings and fitness classes to creative arts and volunteering, these experiences promote joy, confidence, and a sense of belonging.

School-Based Connections: Empowering Youth Through Community Integration

Our School-Based Connections Program serves youth ages 16 and up, helping them build a foundation for success after high school. Students develop essential life skills, explore career and volunteer opportunities, and connect with peers in a supportive environment. By fostering a sense of community and inclusion, we help young people gain the confidence and independence needed to transition successfully into adulthood and community life.

Beginning November 1st, many of our clients will lose their SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits due to the ongoing government shutdown. This loss will create additional financial strain for individuals who already face barriers to meeting basic needs. Your donation can help bridge that gap — ensuring clients have access not only to food security resources but also to enriching programs that keep them connected and supported.
