Soulful Horse

Soulful Horse was founded by three horse crazy women who saw a rising need to help youth in our area navigate the pathways of life. What better way than to let horses and their herd help us find our way. We offer equine assisted, theme based lessons. Students enter the program through an application process. As we spend time learning how to properly care for, groom, tack and ride the horses, we dive into theme discussions of herd dynamics like communication, trust and belonging. We then relate those topics to our own life interactions. Our students learn how to safely be around and handle the horses from their very first lesson. The children build confidence, self awareness and learn boundaries. 

During the 2023 season, Soulful Horse gave 197 lessons March-September in 97 hours for a combined total of 291 hours in lessons by founders/mentors Abbie Schramm, Steffanie Arneson and Stephanie Kirkham. This does not include the hours our wonderfully amazing volunteers added to many lesson afternoons.

Our goal for Soulful Horse has always been to offer a free program so we don’t miss any kiddo that may need the TLC of a horse. In doing so we donate our time and seek donations, sell logo wear and fundraise so that we may operate in this way. 

Although the lessons are free of charge, the value of each lesson is $50/ lesson by the time we calculate a standard lesson fee, facility fee, insurance etc. 

During this next off season, we’ll be working hard toward an accreditation in equine assisted therapy.

In addition to offering a free program to the youth in our area and as far as we can reach, the vision of Soulful Horse has always been to include a sustainable horse rescue. While we aren't to that point YET, we do have Biscuit! Our ambassador, Biscuit, was a rescue from a kill pen. He was ill and malnourished when we took him on. He has come around nicely and is learning how to be a valuable member of the Soulful Horse family.

$35 provides one new youth riding helmet

$50 provides one kiddo a FREE lesson

$50 pays for one hoof trim for Biscuit. He gets 9 trims a year.

$75 pays for Biscuits yearly vaccinations

$100 pays for one month board for Biscuit.

$200 pays for Biscuits annual dental exam and oral care.

$1,500 provides one student a full season of lessons.

Our students, their resiliency and the work they do with their equine partners is our drive and feeds our souls. They are our inspiration to do more. Your gift ensures Soulful Horse can continue to reach youth in need.
