Did you know that the United States has the highest population of single parents in the entire world?! Approximately 80% are single moms. According to www.unitedforalice.org about 68% of single moms in Minnesota live in poverty or "ALICE" (asset limited income constrained, employed). Many single parents lack education to support their families adequately. The careers of single parents with higher education often suffers due to the time off needed to care for their children. Between sick days, appointments, and the days off for schools and childcare, single parents are often using more days off than employers allow.

With such limitations it is not totally surprising that our children face horrible statistics. 85% of children with behavioral disorders come from single parent homes. Children face dramatically increased incarceration rates, suicides, substance abuse, and so much more. Studies are even showing that children raised in a single parent home actually make less in their adult careers!

While this information can feel daunting, we know there is a solution. Our founder was raised by a single mom. She faced many of these hardships. When she became a single mom herself she knew there had to be a different way of doing things, but didn't know how. She found herself in a church, with no where else to go. It was there, in a community of support that she received the care, guidance, and encouragement she needed. Her oldest is a collage graduate. Her youngest is currently in college. Neither have faced any of the terrible statistics listed above! This is the power of community.

Our mission is to create the village every single parent needs by increasing groups, events, resources, and supports. Together we can make a difference!

We do this by offering structured groups using a set of curriculums. Each has been carefully selected by our Steering Committee (current and former single parents), from surveys, and from our founders' many years of experience leading a single moms group. Groups offer a safe place for single parents to find a sense of belonging, to grow, and to increase their support network. 100% of past attendees report a reduction in stress and anxiety. 90% reported improved finances.

"First Fridays for Single Moms" is a monthly event. We host a dinner where single moms have an opportunity to connect with each other. A community speaker is brought in to teach on a variety of helpful topics. This connects single moms to local wisdom and resources right in our community. We offer childcare and are working on a children's curriculum.

Our website contains 15 comprehensive regional resource brochures that cover the entire state! They are available for anyone to view and print. This connects single parents to the existing resources available to them. Making resources clear and easy to access reduces stress and frustration.

We offer additional supports online and are growing our mentorship programs. All of these programs create a holistic approach to a problem that effects several generations.

Join us! We are asking you to be part of our village that makes our programs possible. Donate today and keep our programs going. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact us!
