During the summer of 2007 a number of volunteers in Minnesota who had been actively involved with other Shih Tzu rescue groups came together and decided it was the right time to form their own local Minnesota rescue group. Our volunteers felt the importance of being closely involved in all aspects of the rescue and re-homing of their foster dogs. Being a local Minnesota group provided us with the opportunity to be integrally involved in the entire adoption process; home visits, reference checks and continued subsequent follow up. More dogs than ever are coming to us, the economic downturn has caused many owner turn ins, and puppymills are feeling the pinch and releasing more breeder dogs than ever to rescue. We are committed to giving each dog we receive a second chance and we treat them with respect, dignity, and love. We spay and neuter all dogs before they are adopted, doing our part to help control the number of homeless pets. We do not turn any dog away because of medical issues. In January of this year we received a 10 year old puppymill mama (pictured above) who was suffering from an auto immune disease and was critically ill. STRMN paid for all of the vetting costs ($3000.+) and today she is a happy, normal, loving dog. All of your donations are used to pay for veteranarian costs. We need your donations so we can continue to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome these wonderful Shih Tzu and Shih Tzu blends.
