Education as a Pathway to Empowerment

In October 2021, shortly after the Taliban's takeover, Shared Humanity Inc. opened two schools in Afghanistan in response to the pressing need for free, accessible education. Bibi Latifa School was established for girls displaced from Herat, Ghazni, and Lashkar Gah, offering these young refugees their first opportunity for formal education in Luia Walla, a village on the outskirts of Kandahar. Meanwhile, Bibi Sarah School, located in a poor district of Kandahar City, provided education to 190 students, mostly orphans, who couldn’t afford private tuition fees. By December 2021, both schools had received official licenses from Afghanistan’s Ministry of Education.

Each school day, about 350 students not only receive academic instruction but also enjoy a meal, a crucial support that aids their focus and development. Operating costs, including staff salaries, supplies, rent, and utilities, reach approximately $5,000 per month, and Shared Humanity Inc. is actively working to expand capacity in response to growing demand.

Vocational Training and Autonomy

In 2022, Shared Humanity Inc. launched a Women’s Vocational Center to empower women through skills in sewing, enrolling 90 women and aiming to help them establish independent tailoring businesses. Sixty women graduated with certificates, but unfortunately, the center was later closed due to Taliban restrictions. While the women’s program had to be closed due to Taliban restrictions, the vocational center remains open, continuing to offer tailoring and embroidery training for girls and young men.

The program has experienced a strong demand, with a growing waiting list of eager participants. However, expanding the program requires additional resources, such as more equipment and instructors. Tailoring and embroidery are among the few income-generating opportunities in Afghanistan, and Shared Humanity Inc. is committed to continuing this program and providing young men and girls with skills that foster self-sufficiency and economic stability despite the challenges.

Advocating for Women’s Rights and Employing Women Teachers

In a country where women’s rights face constant challenges, Shared Humanity Inc. actively supports Afghan women through its employment of female teachers, who act as both educators and role models. This commitment ensures that women contribute meaningfully to Afghanistan’s future, as boys and girls study side by side, learning respect and mutual appreciation.

Meeting Basic Needs Through Clean Water Access and Humanitarian Aid

Access to clean water is essential for community well-being. Shared Humanity Inc. has drilled six wells in collaboration with village leaders who safeguard these resources, ensuring water access for all. Each well, costing between $2,000 and $3,000, offers a sustainable resource that reduces illness and supports daily life, but many more are needed.

Core Values: Building Resilience Through Collaboration

Founded in 2016, Shared Humanity Inc. began its mission-driven work by distributing essential humanitarian aid to those fleeing to Greece from war-torn regions. Recognizing that meaningful assistance required long-term empowerment, Shared Humanity Inc. expanded to Afghanistan in September 2021 to address the urgent needs for educational access, women’s rights, and economic stability in a context where political upheaval severely impacted basic rights and opportunities, especially for women.

Shared Humanity Inc.'s approach is built on a belief in the fundamental values of compassion, fairness, and justice. Guided by these values, the organization partners with distressed communities, recognizing their inherent talents and resources. Through strategic collaboration, Shared Humanity Inc. provides comprehensive support, empowering individuals to overcome obstacles and shape their paths toward self-improvement. By prioritizing sustainable solutions, Shared Humanity Inc. fosters resilience and equity, aiming to nurture communities’ long-term independence and stability.

A Vision for a Permanent Home

Due to the high costs and instability in renting facilities, Shared Humanity Inc. is actively seeking funds to buy land or a building that would permanently house its programs. This effort includes exploring fundraising and grant opportunities, and potential partnerships, to secure a lasting educational foundation for Afghan youth.

Your Support Creates Lasting Change

Shared Humanity Inc.'s work is sustained by generous supporters who believe in a future where every individual has access to food, water, education, and opportunities essential for thriving. Every contribution helps expand educational access, protect women’s rights, provide clean water, and offer urgently needed relief.
