Shakopee Diversity Alliance

Shakopee Diversity Alliance (SDA) is your local nonprofit committed to promoting inclusivity and unity across our entire community, a task that is urgently needed more than ever in light of the racial injustices we have experienced in our state. In response to injustice and the pandemic, our members have been working diligently to create a safe space to dialogue and learn by holding events including but not limited to the Shakopee People of Color Together Listening Session (Fall 2020), virtual Black History Month educational series, ongoing virtual Allyship discussion sessions, mental health programming and an Anti-Asian Racism speaking event. These initiatives have helped ensure that our Shakopee neighbors of color feel supported and empowered during the difficult times we are in. SDA is also partnering closely with the Scott County Equity Team to bring forward the issues facing our community of color. To promote the safety of our neighbors, SDA is also working closely with Scott County Public Health to bring critical public health information to our immigrant & refugee neighbors.

SDA was founded in 2012 by our then-mayor beginning with a “Diversity Summit” drawing over 144 residents who discussed the desire to create and sustain an organization committed to Shakopee’s rich diversity. It has since blossomed into a non-profit organization driven by tax deductible donations. All proceeds raised will be used towards continuing our work through education and outreach events focused on healing and facilitating critical conversations around race and equity. Our goal is to raise $10,000 for SDA-sponsored activities and operational expenses so the entire Shakopee community can progress.

The SDA is led by a working board of majority BIPOC and women volunteers. There are several ways to give:
