Sustainable Farming Association farmers have an uplifting story. For over 30 years, we’ve quietly proven that farming differently works—for us and the environment. SFA members run small farms, some organic, some bigger than others. They treat their animals humanely and with respect. We help each other clean up and grow more, row-by-row, pasture-by-pasture.  And we know that the soil-building techniques we teach can capture carbon and fight climate change--all while increasing farmers' profitability.

This year, your Give to the Max gifts to SFA will support our farmer-to-farmer consulting program.

Nearly 100 farmers have benefited this year from our on-farm consults. Our team of farmer consultants spend a day walking the farm to get a literal lay of the land, discuss the farmer’s goals, and make a plan for accomplishing those goals. Depending on the farmer’s needs, discussion could focus on building soil health, grazing management, cover crop seed mixes, and more. It’s always with the unique context of the individual farm in mind, as well as ecological and economic sustainability.

This service is a direct extension of SFA’s farmer-to-farmer network, our bedrock. It’s an important complement to our workshops, field days, and online resources. Sometimes farm consults aren’t funded by a specific grant or covered by member dues, but we never refuse a request for on-farm technical assistance. Raising $15,000 would give our team the freedom and flexibility to take on more farmer requests for help and know the cost of their time is covered.
