CAP Agency (Scott-Carver-Dakota Counties)

Cap Agency needs your help to continue providing healthy and culturally responsive food to individuals and families in need. After all, access to nutritious food is both a basic right and a pillar of a thriving community. Despite that, it ranked as the fourth greatest need throughout Scott, Carver, and Dakota county in our 2025 Community Needs Assessment. 

Due to significant inflation in food prices over the years, many find it difficult to afford groceries now. Even food purchases for our CAP Agency Food Shelf have grown quite substantially.  Today, $1 can only purchase $6 worth of food from a food bank, compared to $9 just a year ago. Our food budget can no longer go as far as it once did. With only a portion of food coming from donations, we must purchase more food at a reduced rate. It costs $2,500 to run the food shelf just for one day, which amounts to $650,000 for one year.  

With 1500 households currently utilizing our food shelf monthly, it’s difficult to keep the shelves stocked. In addition to the food shelf, we also give out food through our two free monthly food distributions and mobile food shelf.  In 2024 alone, we served 22,616 households, totaling 74,086 individuals, with 2,716,259 pounds of food!
