Residential Services, Inc. is a private non-profit organization that provides innovative services to people with disabilities.
RSI serves people who range in age from 4 to 75 years old, who may have any type of disability and depend on help from others in some way. The needs and challenges of each person may vary greatly but the one thing they all have in common is living with very limited financial means.
One of the most significant impacts of having very low income is not being able to afford to participate in community activities. A recent RSI survey identified this issue as one of the top concerns for people living at RSI. State and Federal government funding pay for housing, food, and staffing supports, taking care of the basic health and safety needs of people. This leaves people on their own to pay for those activities that are a large part of what improves our quality of life.
A recent RSI grant program illustrated this problem for us. In 2013, RSI worked with other partners in the community to develop yoga classes that were adapted for people with disabilities. Grant funding made these initial classes affordable for everyone and the results for participants were meaningful. Unfortunately, the project also demonstrated the problem RSI clients have with being able to afford this type of activity. Without the grant, few would have been able to participate in yoga.
Yoga classes are just one example of the many community activities out of the financial reach of RSI’s clients. Being able to go camping, to a movie, to try horseback riding, or to dine out, are all activities beyond the budget of most people being served by RSI. This budget reality is why RSI has identified raising funds for client activities as a strategic priority in 2014.
If you take a few minutes to watch the videos on our page, you can hear the stories of two RSI clients who share their journey of recovery and and attaining their life goals with the help of our services. Their experiences and success at our programs are why we do what we do; providing innovative services to the individuals who we serve.
All funds raised in this year’s Give to the Max Day will go toward this client activity fund. RSI has a donor who will match the first $2,000 raised dollar for dollar. Your $25 donation will become a $50 donation to the activity fund.
100% of all money raised will be used to pay for client participation in activities. A $25 donation will pay for two clients to go out for coffee and attend a movie. A $50 donation will pay for six yoga classes. A $75 donation will fund three horseback riding lessons. A $100 donation would pay for fifteen day passes at a fitness center. A $150 donation will pay for a three-day camping trip. RSI hopes to give every client the opportunity to enjoy these types of activities.
Please help RSI build this client activity fund by making a donation today. Thank you!
