Five Years In and Growing:
As we enter our fifth year of stewarding this land, we are reflecting with deep gratitude. The support we have received over the years has given our community space to explore the possibilities of this land and imagine what healing can look like when it is rooted in care, reciprocity, and abundance. This land allows us to hold community, create space for rest, and facilitate healing in a way that only the land can.
Your gift helps us continue this work and strengthens our ongoing commitment to maintain this relationship with the land and create access for those who need it the most. Your contribution helps keep this space open, cared for, and grounded in the belief that everyone deserves rest and respite as a way to sustain the lives and communities most marginalized.
Where can community go for healing?
For years, folks living at the intersections of BIPOC and LGBTQ+ identities have named the urgent need for healing spaces that “look like us, talk like us, and act like us.” In 2020, when Minneapolis became the epicenter of the global uprising, this need reached a crisis point. Organizers were running on fumes, taking little to no time to retreat, rest, and rejuvenate. When an opportunity emerged to steward 36-acres of biodiverse agricultural land in unceded traditional territory of the Dakota people (Annandale, MN; about 75-minutes outside of the Twin Cities), six BIPOC lesbian artist-organizers responded.
The Fields at Rootsprings is a transformative model for community healing and Black land stewardship in Minnesota. It is a hybrid cooperative-nonprofit partnership with the mission to provide land-based programs for the healing and retreat of BIPOC and LGBTQ+ artists, activists, healers and communities in Minnesota and beyond. Since 2022, Rootsprings hosted over 800 nights of healing between our three cozy hermitages.
Please give all that you can!
