The Ridges Sanctuary, Wisconsin's oldest member-based nature preserve, celebrates almost 75 years of connecting the Door County community with nature! Founded by pioneers in Wisconsin's conservation movement, the 1,600-acre wildflower preserve is a Door County treasure, harboring one of the largest concentrations of rare plants in the Midwest. The Ridges is also recognized as: the most biologically diverse area in Wisconsin, with over 475 plant species; a National Natural Landmark; a Wisconsin State Natural Area; a Wisconsin Wetland Gem; the location of 25 of the 40 orchid spies native to Wisconsin; and a National Audubon Society Important Bird Area. Two RangeLights (different from a lighthouse in that they guide ships into the harbor rather than warn them away) built in 1869 are a part of the property as well as two 150+ year old log cabins. A special place for history, reflection, and discovery.
