ReNew Earth Running: Running to protect and heal the environment by restoring land to the stewardship of Tribal Nations and Indigenous leadership.
Formed in December 2020, with our home base in Minneapolis, RER has had am amazing 2nd year in 2022! In April 2022, we announced our second team of RER runners, increasing to 50 teammates up from 22 in our first year. Our runners live throughout the US and Canada and run in support of RER's mission through their individual race schedules, adventures or prayer runs. One such run, in particular, created a significant partnership with Bears Ears Inter-Tribal Coalition, which allowed RER to support BEITC's work in stewarding Bears Ears National Monument.
On August 7, 2022, RER hosted our second annual Haulin’ Pollen 5k. The run was the kickoff event to the Lower Phalen Creek Project Pollinator Festival. The proceeds of the run went to benefit the work of our friends at Lower Phalen Creek Project (LPCP). LPCP is an Indigenous-led nonprofit that cares for the Phalen Creek watershed and for Wakan Tipi, a Dakota sacred site located within the Bruce Vento Nature Sanctuary in St. Paul. Thanks to the race sponsors and to those who registered to run the 5k, RER was able to donate $4,382 toward LPCP's land stewardship projects. Look for the third installment of the Haulin’ Pollen 5k to be run in August 2023.
In September 2022, RER was the charity sponsor for the HAWK 100 in Lawrence, Kansas and came together for our first ever national team gathering!
On November 24, 2022, we will be co-hosting the annual Truthsgiving 4 Miler with our friends at Rising Hearts. This is a nation-wide virtual run, but RER is hosting one of the in-person events with a run at Pike Island. You can register and join us at: https://events.elitefeats.com/22truthsgiving. This event is held in order to educate people about the truth of the historic events that we know as Thanksgiving. Proceeds from the event go to support the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe, the tribe impacted by the events we celebrate as a holiday.
We will also be gathering for our 2nd b'Earth'day at Bde Maka Ska on December 4, 2022 to celebrate our second year of running to support Indigenous land stewardship.
