A donation to Redesign continues our housing, commercial corridor and small business development work in Longfellow.

Redesign, Inc. (formerly Seward Redesign) was founded in 1969 as a non-profit community development corporation in Minneapolis’ Seward Neighborhood. Our service area has grown to encompass the five neighborhoods of the Longfellow Community: Seward, Longfellow, Cooper, Howe, and Hiawatha. Redesign is place-based, with strong ties to the communities we serve. Redesign’s approach creates space for everyone to dream and realize their visions for economic prosperity.

Redesign's projects have included affordable housing projects like the Seward Towers renovation and the Cooperage Apartments; affordable commercial projects like the redevelopment of Sonora Grill building at 3300 E. Lake Street, the Focus Arts building, and the acquisition and renovation of Elite Cleaners; and community-led planning efforts like the Reconnecting Neighborhoods planning process for I-94.

Our current real estate work includes Wadaag Commons, the Coliseum Building, and the former Longfellow US Bank site redevelopments which will create new affordable commercial space and apartments; partner with new BIPOC developers to expand access to the wealth-building opportunity of real estate; and rebuild our neighborhoods after the COVID-19 pandemic and damage experienced during the civil unrest following the murder of Mr. George Floyd.

Redesign also supports our small business community though hands-on, tailored technical assistance, resource connection, and project funding as well as responsive commercial property management of 7 buildings in our service area totaling nearly 100,000 sq ft of commercial space.
