Home of Red Wing Thorobred marine engines!

Red Wing has a proud and distinguished history.  Wheat to leather, shoes to pottery, and natives to pioneers, Red Wing celebrates its diverse history throughout the community.  Did you know that marine engines were also manufactured and distributed worldwide from Red Wing, MN beginning in 1903?

In 1913, the manufacture of boats was beginning to be phased out and the company devoted most of its resources to manufacturing a line of four-cycle marine engines-Red Wing Thorobreds-which became instantly popular throughout the country. The wood sand casting molds and patterns were made by pattern makers at the factory in Red Wing. Some of these molds and patterns are in the museum collection in addition to other artifacts related to Red Wing's rich river history!

Our seasonal self-guided museum tours start in late May and end in mid-October.  We just finished our third summer and want to thank all those volunteers, citizens, neighbors, riverboat guests and the road construction crew for making it a successful year!
