The Sheldon Theatre Brass Band was founded in 1989 as the resident performing ensemble at the newly restored, turn of the century T. B. Sheldon Theatre in Red Wing, Minnesota.  We are currently enjoying our 34th season of making music.  We use the instrumentation of the traditional British Brass Band and play a broad variety of musical styles.  In addition to our regular performances at the Sheldon Theatre, we perform at a variety of venues throughout Minnesota and western Wisconsin and have performed at many Brass Band festivals throughout the United States including NABBA championships, the Chicago Open, and the Great American Brass Band Festival.  In 2009 we released our fifth compact disc, Black, White & Blue

We greatly appreciate the consistent support we have received throughout our history from local businesses, charitable contributions, and individual chair sponsors.

Some highlights of our programming include:  Annual spring concerts in April at the Sheldon Theatre, summer concerts at Red Wing's Central Park for the Concert in the Park series and River City Days, the Vintage Band Festival in Northfield, MN in July, and our traditional holiday concert in November at the Sheldon Theatre.  We have performed the world premiere of new works for Brass Band by internationally known Brass Band composers Stephen Bulla and Robert Collinson, American Composers Forum founder Libby Larson, and band members Dr. Glen Newton, Keith Thompson, Steven Ritzenthaler, Milt Hovelson, Harvey Halpaus, and John Mundy.  Joint concerts with other organizations such as the Lake Wobegon Brass Band, Carleton Symphony Band, Grand Symphonic Winds, concerts that were part of national or international festivals, Peace Gathering Concert, part of the 2007 International Peace Conference in Red Wing.  Concerts featuring nationally known musicians such as trumpet/cornet soloist Ashley Hall, trombone soloist Thomas Ashworth, tuba soloist Patrick Sheridan, Salvation Army composer and conductor William Himes, and organist Katherine Handford.  We have participated in the North American Brass Band Association (NABBA) and have hosted the NABBA competition when it was held in Red Wing in 1997, placing second in the championship division, won the NABBA Honors Division competition in 1993, and have competed in the U.S. Open Brass Band Championships.  Hosted a joint rehearsal in 2008 that brought together members of Minnesota’s three brass bands, the Sheldon Theatre Brass Band, Lake Wobegon Brass Band, and Winona Brass Band.
