For ten years, Raise The Barr has worked to increase opportunity and economic mobility for single-parent families through higher education, career development, and housing. Inspired by our co-founders, Lori Barr and her son, retired Minnesota Vikings Pro Bowl linebacker Anthony Barr, we believe single-parent students possess the strength, determination, and potential to create extraordinary futures for themselves and their children.
As we celebrate our 10th Anniversary, we are proud of how far our scholars and families have come, and even more excited to Imagine What’s Next as Raise The Barr begins its next decade of impact. Every degree earned, career launched, and barrier overcome has the potential to change not just one life, but two generations. And there is so much more ahead.
Some of our notable outcomes since our founding in 2016:
- Raise The Barr has awarded over $1.4 million dollars for school, housing, childcare and other expenses related to attending college, 281 emergency grants totaling nearly $170,000, and directly supported 203 scholars and 365 children.
- 96% of our scholars remain enrolled or have graduated, with an average GPA of 3.1.
- 92% of our scholars are single mothers. 80% of our scholars are Asian, Black, Indigenous, or People of Color.
- 100% of scholars remained in, or secured, safe and stable housing during their time at RTB.
