Protect Minnesota promotes a culture of health and safety for all Minnesotans by preventing gun violence through research, education, advocacy and community investment.  

As the only independent, state-based, grassroots gun violence prevention organization in Minnesota, we are in a unique position to truly impact the mission to end gun violence in our state.

We are building a strong, statewide coalition—engaging the public health and health care sectors, people of faith, communities of color, the LGBT community, educators, students, gun owners, and law makers in the gun reform movement.

Gun violence is a pervasive negative force throughout Minnesota today, stealing lives, devastating families, oppressing communities, and costing Minnesota over $2 billion annually. Every day in Minnesota, three people are shot and at least one dies of their injuries. Every year, guns kill more Minnesotans than either opioids or car accidents. Gun violence is the second leading cause of death for children and youth in America, and the leading cause of death of black children and youth. In 2020, 500 Minnesotans were killed by gun violence.

But it doesn't have to be this way.

Your support today will help us  reach out to Minnesotans across the state, build new metro and rural partnerships, engage gun owners in advocacy for stronger gun laws, be a constant presence at the state legislature, conduct research into the true impact of gun violence in our communities, educate voters all over the state about how they can be a voice in preventing gun violence, prevent suicides by firearm all over the state, and invest in the communities of color most impacted by gun violence.
