Prospect House Museum

The Prospect House & Civil War Museum has the largest collection of Civil War artifacts in the state and is the only house museum in west central Minnesota.

We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to providing our attendees with unique educational experiences by sharing the stories of Civil War Veteran James Allison “Cap” Colehour, his pioneering family, and other early settlers of Battle Lake, Minnesota. The purpose of sharing Colehour family’s house, observations, memorabilia and life is to open a door to history through which those who pass achieve greater understanding and appreciation for an earlier and important time in the making of our nation.

Due to COVID-19 we've had to reduce our tours and cancel in-person events, which has greatly impacted our main source of revenue. We need your help to continue to create educational programming for students, residents, and visitors to Battle Lake, Minnesota. Please consider donating today.
