Pope County Humane Society was first established in 1985 and incorporated in 1987. We are a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Our goal is to prevent cruelty to animals, provide for the welfare of animals, and to promote public education for responsible pet ownership. We take in injured, sick, found, abandoned, and surrendered animals. We provide for their physical needs as well as kind and loving hands to relieve their stress. We have some amazing staff, volunteers, and foster families that help us meet the needs of our animals.
Our top priority at Pope County Humane Society is to care for every single animal that comes through our doors.
“Our animals need it” means:
-The basics: feeding them, keeping them hydrated, giving them a warm, comfortable space
-Vet visits: vet checks, assessments, and recommendations, routine vetting, emergency and beyond care, medications, vaccines, microchips, grooming.
-Love: fostering and supporting amazing staff members and volunteers to love on all the animals who come to PCHS to make sure each animal feels loved and cared for. Carrying-out enrichment programs to help curb stress, fear, and boredom.
-Education: Going through certification programs, webinars, conference calls, and meetings with other animal welfare organizations so we can learn how to improve what we are doing day-to-day, how to better support our animals, how to connect with our community, how to fundraise and write grants, how to establish programs to help our community, and so much more.
-Projects: improving our shelter space, replacing equipment, expanding our resources and space, buying supplies.
Working and volunteering in animal welfare is not easy. Period. It is hard. We can speak from experience that we have had many heartbreaking and challenging times with PCHS. But, we can say with 100% certainty that it is worth it. Watching animals thrive and find their forever homes is why we all do it. By donating, getting involved, or simply just spreading the word of what we do or the animals we have that need homes, you support us and it does not go unnoticed. We are passionate, determined, hardworking, and caring people who have big dreams and goals for PCHS so we hope you will consider supporting us in any way you see fit.
