About us

Pope County Humane Society was first established in 1985 and incorporated in 1987.  We are a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Our goal is to prevent cruelty to animals, provide for the welfare of animals, and to promote public education for responsible pet ownership. We take in injured, sick, found, abandoned, and surrendered animals.  We provide for their physical needs as well as kind and loving hands to relieve their stress.  We have some amazing staff, volunteers, and foster families that help us meet the needs of our animals.

Every day, the Pope County Humane Society opens its doors to animals in need — lost, abandoned, or surrendered pets who deserve a second chance. This year alone, we’ve cared for over 145 animals so far, giving them safety, love, and the promise of a better tomorrow.

In 2024 and 2025 combined, nearly 400 animals found their way through our doors — and thanks to our community, more than 320 have already found homes of their own. Your support makes this possible.
