Proper helmets protect our MVPs (most valuable people)!

  • $400 each.  That's what a good, safe football helmet costs.  Help us protect our kids' most valuable asset!

Did you know the Stillwater Football Program played its first game in 1895?  But it wasn't until 1921 that Ponies players first began wearing helmets.  Since then the Ponies have been making Friday nights under the lights a safe, exciting and enjoyable Stillwater community ritual for generations to enjoy.

Today, most of our varsity players wear the Riddell Speed Flex helmet, (a top-ranked-for-safety helmet).  The majority of our team helmets are in the seventh season of use. The lifespan of a safe helmet is 8-10 years. We want to be proactive about helmets and we know that the best ones help players reduce the risk of concussion.  Each helmet costs $400 (if we purchase in bulk we can bring that number down).  Through fundraising efforts, The Ponies Touchdown Club pays for, and maintains, team equipment, including pads, jerseys, socks and the best helmets on the market, as we consider safety first.  And that's why we're reaching out to you, our greater Stillwater community, to help us pay for this essential piece of equipment for as many players as possible.

About Riddell's Speed Flex Helmet:
The Virginia Tech Helmet Ratings ranks this football helmet as a 5 Star (out of 5) Best Available helmet.  Helmets with more stars offer greater reduction in concussion risk.  All football helmets must meet the guidelines of National Operating Committee on Standards for Athletic Equipment (NOCSAE).  No helmet can prevent all head or neck injuries, but these standards include general and sport specific guidelines and focus on reducing the risk of head and neck injuries.

About the Ponies Touchdown Club (PTC)

The Ponies Touchdown Club was created in 2012 and supports the Stillwater Ponies Football Program.  Our members help maintain our strong tradition of Stillwater football and assist our goals to improve player equipment, practice equipment, create an adequate player-coach ratio at all levels, use game and program technology, and overall, support the program.  We need funding to purchase and replace old helmets before costs go up in January, 2019.  The PTC is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization and our Tax ID number is 45-4781898.  Thank you for supporting Ponies Football!
