Picture A Hero provides deploying American service men and women with free digital and print portraits of their family & family members.

"I am immensely grateful to you ladies for what you do.  Your act of kindness means so much.  These are definitely pictures we will treasure for a long time, and both our families are also thrilled to have them.  I hope you are able to provide the same miracle for many other families, and I hope to see you in the future." - wife of soldier

Since June, 2010 Picture A Hero has provided portraits to approximately 3500 service members and their fmailies. The portraits provided have included individual portraits of the service members, portraits of the service member with each of their family members alone and with the service member and also family portraits.  Picture A Hero has also provided portraits to parents, husbands, wives, children, siblings and other significant people in the service member's lives.

The service members and their families receive all of the images taken in digital format, a Picasa link to enable them to share their images with family and friends and a selection of prints- including 1- 11x14, 2 8x10 family portraits, 4-5x7s and 10- 4x6s.

Picture A Hero provides the soldiers, their families and friends with permission to reproduce all images for personal use.

We hope that our portraits provide service men and women and their families some comfort when they are apart.

Susan, Charlotte and Hannah Rose Shogren Smith have traveled across the country to provide portraits to service members and their families. They receive no compensation for their time.

Families in all 50 states have received portraits. Our images have been viewed by service members, their families and friends in more than 40 countries.

Currently, our average cost per service member/family is approximately $25.00.

"We just received our portraits and I couldn't be happier.  To be honest, I had reservations about getting them taken- we were all so tired and emotional that day, I didn't really want a picture of all of us looking glum.  Your photographers were friendly and worked with us to get some fun poses, and when I opened the envelope today, I just cried.  They are so great.  I can't wait to frame the pictures of each of my girls with their Dad to hang in their room while he's gone."  - wife of soldier
