Help children, promote peace & create opportunity in a war-torn province of Afghanistan by supporting schools, job training, and healthcare.

Since 2003 The Partnership for the Education of Children in Afghanistan (PECA) has successfully worked with people in Afghanistan to address their needs.

Peca works in the province of Khost, near the Pakistan border.  Schools, infrastructure, and healthcare facilities there have all been decimated by more than thirty years of war.  Recently, Khost has been a center for U.S. military involvement as well.

PECA works closely with the council of elders and the people of the province of Khost. They built the first girls' school in the area in 2003, and attendance among grade school girls is 100%.  Soon after, PECA helped support the government boys' school, in need of repair and teachers, and from there, at the community's request, supported a health clinic.

Taliban recruit from areas of low literacy and of economic desperation. Building schools is the first step in giving people there the hope they need.

People need jobs.  PECA also provides vocational training programs so students can have access to jobs or start a business, in computer repair, tailoring, plumbing, and other fields.

Their latest initiative is a midwife training program.  The maternal mortality rate in Afghanistan is one in six, the highest in the world.

Much is made of the need for local involvement.  PECA was founded by a former Afghani minister of Agriculture, and continues to listen and respond to the people.  PECA has a history of involvement and will maintain its presence in the community.
