The people of the Northwestern Minnesota Synod are “freed by God’s grace to be wholly devoted to Jesus and our neighbor in love.” Our freedom isn’t for ourselves, so that we can do whatever we want; it’s for loving Jesus and then devoting ourselves to the wellbeing of our neighbors. And this is not a part-time, sometimes on Sundays commitment; we are devoting our whole selves to this – wholly devoted.

Last year, donors from our synod gave generously to Minnesota’s Give to the Max Day.  Your generosity enabled dozens of congregations to explore cooperative ministries, restore their vitality and strengthen the communities where they are planted. You also supported two new worshipping communities among neighbors struggling with homelessness in the Moorhead area, and among the young indigenous neighbors in the Bemidji area.  You also helped alleviate the debt burden on leaders with seminary education debt.

Your participation in our Minnesota Give to the Max Day campaign has proven to be a powerful way to advance the mission of your synod. Thank you!

Our vision for this year’s Give to the Max Day this is “Leadership Next.” It is all about fostering extraordinary leadership for extraordinary times.

Your giving this year will be support four initiatives that flow directly from our synod’s new strategic plan:

  1. “Go for It!” Grants for congregations/parishes to stir congregations involved in our synod’s Practicing Resurrection and other renewal processes to be bold in risk-taking for the sake of Gospel – so they can live out their future story of a vital community that is growing in faith in Jesus Christ and love for their neighbor.
  2. Five Smooth Stones: An innovative new leadership formation program for professional leaders and everyday Christians alike.
  3. Jeremiah 29:7 Cohorts: This will be a pathway for community renewal through leadership development involving community organizing, executive coaching and entrepreneurship training for pastors. It is a leadership path outlined by the Lord to the exiles in Babylon to “Seek the prosperity of the community in which you have been placed.”
  4. Seminary Debt Reduction Grants: Our future goal is to be able to pay off 50% of a rostered minister’s indebtedness in the first five years of their ministry. This will help attract and keep exceptional rostered ministers.

This year, with the help of an amazing $25,000 challenge match from the Offutt Family Foundation, we hope to exceed $60,000 in total giving toward these exciting goals. Thank you in advance for your generosity!
