COVID 19 has effected each and everyone of us.  FiftyNorth has not been exempted from the challenges.   In a normal year, FiftyNorth is buzzing with 400 engaged members participating each day, partaking in one of the 65 classes offered each week, swimming in the warm water pool, working out in the fitness room, being creative in the Art Studio, dining with friends, playing cards, or lingering in the lobby while reading the paper, having a cup of coffee and eating a bag of popcorn. 

2020 and 2021 have proven to not be normal years.  The center was closed for 3 months.  Memberships were put on hold. FiftyNorth re-opened and began operating under the State mandated guidelines that  restricted use to 25% use in Fitness, and 50% use in aqua programs, restricting the number of people that can be in the Fitness Room, Pool, and Classes.   Today there are combined 250 members participating online and at the center each day.  Many members are not ready to come to the center to participate because of coronavirus.  We understand.  For the members that want to participate in programs at the Center,  staff has been able to schedule most of the programs that are important to users.

State mandates have been lifted. No matter the current restrictions or changes, our philosophy and purpose remain the same.  At FiftyNorth we believe age is just a number. Our staff, volunteers and members are committed to planning and providing programs and activities that inspire and empower our members to engage in activities that nourish the mind, body, and spirit. It’s a philosophy rooted in the idea that no matter the date on your birth certificate, you still have the desire to stay as healthy as you can be! 

FiftyNorth is experiencing a financial impact.  Income is down because of the lower numbers of people participating. This financial downturn is considered temporary because we know that circumstances resulting from the virus will improve, members will return to the center, and the space will be at max use capacity again. 

FiftyNorth has always been generously supported by its members and community users. And for that we are grateful.  In our current situation it is member participation – checking in at the center, and financial donations that will make the difference.
