Recent activities include:
In cooperation with the League of Women Voters, we provided non-partisan candidate information and polling locations for the 2010 elections.
Northfield.org partnered with the City of Northfield to help organize volunteers in the aftermath of the flood in October.
We’ve launched a new homepage section called “Tweets Around Town” which features short, timely updates from folks around town who tweet about the town we know and love.
Around town we are known for:
The "blogosphere” that brings together content from over 100 local bloggers - any local blogger is welcome to be added to the list.
Great coverage of weather events, from citizen video of the Spring 2010 ice melt to the best coverage in town of the great hail storm of 2007.
Students from both St. Olaf and Carleton have worked with us, sometimes for credit, sometimes for pay, and sometimes for fun. The experience teaches journalistic skills to students and gives the community great original content.
We have (arguably) the most comprehensive calendar of local events of any news source in town.
We often hear stories of how former residents are able to keep up with local life through our site. Northfield.org averages over 15,000 unique visitors per month. Last month (October 5, 2010 - November 4, 2010), Northfield.org had 17,771 visitors from 104 countries and all 50 states.
NCO is an all-volunteer organization. Northfield.org is run on a shoestring budget and maintained thanks to many volunteer hours, financial support from individual donations, and sponsorships from local businesses. We are very grateful to all for your generous support.
NCO By-Laws are available online.
