NSCS loves taking our students into the woods! Our students spend time exploring, observing, and learning about our natural world through immersion in our natural spaces. We are fortunate to have 40 acres to explore!  We have earmarked funds towards expanding our outdoor classroom spaces to include an area for classes to work without increasing erosion around our stream and expanding other outdoor spaces into learning spaces for Pre-K through 6th grade.

North Shore Community School (NSCS) is a rural public charter school nestled in the woods near the north shore of Lake Superior approximately half way between Duluth and Two Harbors.  Celebrating our 20th year, North Shore was established in 2002. Our school serves approximately 390 students in grades pre-kindergarten through six.

NSCS'S mission is to excel in connecting our students’ academics and learning with their natural and social environments in a nurturing community setting.  This mission is driven by four core values:

  • Kids First: Students’ diversity and needs drive decisions and actions
  • Partnership: Together we achieve more than alone
  • Knowledge: Skilled in accessing, navigating, and using a broad array of facts and viewpoints from a global perspective
  • Stewardship: Care and responsibility for our natural and social environments

Your support helps us further our mission of connecting the natural and academic worlds through hands-on, relevant, engaging learning opportunities. We can't thank you enough for your support!
