Nicollet Junior High

At Nicollet Junior High we focus on academics, foster integrity take responsibility for ourselves and strive for excellence.

Nicollet Jr. High School, located in Burnsville, MN, is a traditional Junior High School with 7th through 9th grade students in attendance.  Nicollet strives to support each student academically and personally.  Our dedicated staff is an essential component of the education we provide.

Nicollet is an AVID school:

AVID is a program to prepare students in the academic middle for four-year college eligibility and success.  It has a proven track record of bringing out the best in students, and in closing the achievement gap.  AVID’s mission is to ensure all students are college-ready, because we know how important college is to a student’s future.  AVID techniques turn students from passive learners into active classroom contributors and critical thinkers, an approach that’s necessary for college admission and success.

Nicollet is a PBIS school:

Nicollet implements Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports at our school (PBIS). PBIS has helped to provide an opportunity to improve the climate of social behavior in our school by setting common expectations for students and teachers.  Following the Fire (F-ocus, I-ntegrity, R-esponsibility, E-xcellence) expectations our school can:

• Accentuate educational approach to improve behavior management.
• We have a common language about how we relate as a learning community.
• We try to be specific about the way that our expectations are in place.
• We focus on the efforts of students who take good options. (verbal praise, positive message postcards, FIRE tickets that earn them a prize, special passes)
• Integrate initiatives, programs and interventions for common outcomes with each of the students.
• Increase positive recognition of students.

 

We know that families are motivated to give when they know where the money will go.  Your donations will help Nicollet provide more opportunities for our students.

Nicollet Wish List:

AVID- Program initiatives such as team building opportunities for students, scholarships for Field trips.

PBIS/Mentoring Programs - No tardy parties, Super sub rewards and restocking our FIRE house with prizes used as incentives for our students.

Scholarships - For students who can’t afford to go on field trips, participate in extracurricular activities and other events or programs of our school.

Award Ceremonies: Every month we recognize students at Nicollet who exemplify FIRE qualities -Focus, Integrity, Responsibility and Excellence.  With your donation we can create a memorable ceremony for the students of the month.

Academic Department needs - Teacher wish lists for their classrooms, school supply needs, educational magazine subscriptions, technology needs.
