Mission & Vision

As a pioneer of the movement to integrate social and academic learning, New City has had a profound and relevant mission since its founding in 2003. From the original charter, more relevant than ever:

Our Mission

New City School will create a learning community that is diverse, knowledgeable, thoughtful, and caring. We will serve as a demonstration site for best practices in the integration of social and academic learning.

Our Vision

New City School is a supportive community which actively engages students to build knowledge, ask meaningful questions, design creative solutions, open their minds, care for themselves and their community, and become skilled, responsive citizens in the world.

Programs

New City utilizes top rated curricula for mathematics (Eureka Math) and English Language Arts (E.L. Education's ELA Curriculum K-5 and 6-8) to anchor its core academics. Students are understood to be complex human beings who need a sense of belonging, significance, and fun in order to achieve to their potential. A learning community that provides for those needs is intentionally cultivated. Students are well-known by their teachers in small classes and are challenged with locally relevant inquiry-driven projects to ask questions, think critically, find solutions, and be creative in building life-long learning skills. We aim to send students off to high school ready to take on the pressing challenges of their world because they have experience rolling up their sleeves and digging into challenges.
