Caring for our neighbors for more than 50 years!
In 1971, Neighborhood HealthSource opened its doors as a volunteer-run "free clinic" operating in makeshift rooms at community centers. A safety net clinic to this day, we serve the heart of North and NE Minneapolis.
Our neighbors needed us 50 years ago, and—more than ever—they need us now. Our mission: to improve the health of our communities by providing quality healthcare services that are affordable and accessible to all.
If you live on the Northside, or if you live in Northeast, finding a provider isn't easy. Both communities are Medically Underserved Areas, meaning the ratio of people to primary care providers is several thousand to one. Our clinics provide a safety net for low-income families and those traditionally under-served by the private
health care system: those who don't
speak English, at-risk youth, and individuals who are
un- or under-insured to name a few.
We provide care that is accessible, affordable and compassionate. But we can't do it without your support.
So what is poverty's impact on health? The answer is disparity in the prevalence, death and complication rates of adverse health conditions and chronic disease. In our neighborhoods, it means the highest rates of asthma in our children, the highest rates of sexually transmitted infections in our youth, and diabetes among people of color outpacing white Minnesotans more than two to one.
