Neighborhood Energy Connection

Support everyday energy efficiency in the home and on the road

The economic and environmental costs of energy usage are some of the most important issues facing our communities.

For 30 years, we’ve addressed these issues by delivering innovative energy efficiency solutions that change the status quo in practical, measurable ways and positively impact the environment and the lives of community members. We have worked with communities to deliver innovative home energy efficiency programs, helped bring car sharing to the Twin Cities and delivered tens of millions of dollars in low cost home energy financing to Minnesota residents.

Here are just a few of the ways we’re working towards a more energy-efficient future:

Home energy conservation

Since 2009, the Home Energy Squad program has made energy efficiency more accessible for homeowners all along the income spectrum.

By installing low-cost energy efficient devices in over 20,000 homes, we’ve helped Minnesota homeowners save more than 14,090,690 kilowatt hours of energy and $3,109,670 in lowered utility bills.

Making efficiency visible in the real estate market

Home buyers are increasingly interested in energy-efficient homes, but the market lacks a standardized mechanism to communicate value and quality in a way that’s meaningful and specific to our region’s unique heating challenges.

To fill that gap, we partnered with the Center for Energy and the Environment to create the Energy Fit Homes certification for existing homes. Designed to give realtors and homeowners a way to effectively communicate home energy performance, Energy Fit Homes aims to make energy efficiency an essential and value-adding aspect of the home-buying conversation.

Vehicle sharing and transportation access

In 2005 we founded HOURCAR, our award-winning nonprofit vehicle sharing service. Our 65 car fleet serves more than 2,500 members.

HOURCAR is transforming 21st century urban transportation by offering access to a car-lite lifestyle that costs thousands less per year than car ownership and reduces CO2 emissions by .84 tons per member, while meeting the transportation needs of a diverse array of Twin Cities residents.

Your support allows us to continue to innovate, educate and deliver high-quality services that positively impact our region’s economy and environment. Thank you for your contribution.
