Morris Area Arts Boosters raises funds for arts enrichment opportunities in the Morris School District.

In these troubled times, when school districts across the land are slashing budgets to focus on the "essentials," funding for the arts is usually one of the first things to go. This, despite the evidence that education in the arts is valuable beyond the classroom. In our own school district, the elementary school has no art specialist, the instrumental music program has limited funds to purchase new instruments, the choral department is bursting at the seams, the theater department needs updates to its auditorium, and on and on. The Morris Area Arts Boosters was created to address some of these needs, to ensure that our students get some quality artistic experiences during their formative school years. About one third of our student body is on a free or reduced meal plan, so extra expenses relating to registering for an Honors Choir or Honors Band, a ticket to a theater show the class is attending, or opportunities to work with professional artists can be a real hardship. The Morris Area Arts Boosters raises funds throughout the year to give all our students the opportunity to experience these great artistic and cultural events that will enrich their lives, fill their minds with wonder and allow them to think outside the box.
