What We Do

The Minnesota Community Health Worker Alliance works with our partners to reduce health disparities, foster healthier communities, and promote the work of Community Health Workers (CHWs) as an integral public health and health equity workforce. CHWs are trusted, knowledgeable frontline health personnel who typically come from the communities they serve. They bridge cultural and linguistic barriers, expand access to coverage and care, and improve health outcomes. As critical links between their communities and the health care system, CHWs reduce health disparities; boost health care quality, cultural competence, and affordability; as well as empower individuals and communities for better health.

The organization is a convener, catalyst, expert, and resource to advance and integrate CHW strategies across Minnesota. We want to build awareness, promote education, expand CHW use, foster understanding of CHW models, share research, and take action for a greater impact on local communities and the CHW field. CHWs are an integral part of the solutions to challenges facing communities, health care, public health, and social services systems.

We provide information, resources, and networking to CHWs across the state of Minnesota. The Alliance also provides consulting to community partners, stakeholders, public health and health systems to learn more about CHW models and implementation.

The Minnesota Community Health Worker Alliance is committed to equity across all aspects of society. While the primary focus of our work is to ensure health equity for all, we believe to realize this goal, it is imperative that issues of racial justice be addressed. The Alliance is and will always be relentlessly dedicated to pursuing racial justice, equity, and inclusion, and we stand ready to support the leaders and organizations in our community that are committed to those advancing these goals.

Mission: Build community and systems capacity for better health through the integration of Community Health Worker strategies.

Vision: Equitable and optimal health outcomes for all communities
