Mn State Ems Lodd Memorial Foundation

The MN State EMS Line of Duty Death (LODD) Memorial Foundation is a Minnesota-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to creating a permanent memorial on the Minnesota State Capitol grounds to honor EMS professionals who have died in the line of duty. EMS providers serve on the front lines of Minnesota’s communities every day—often with little recognition—and our mission is to ensure their sacrifice is remembered with dignity, permanence, and statewide visibility.

In 2024, the memorial project was formally accepted by the Minnesota Capitol Area Architectural and Planning Board (CAAPB). This approval allows the project to move into the design, engineering, and construction phases, with final elements to be determined through the state’s official contractor process. Once completed, the memorial will stand alongside Minnesota’s existing police and fire memorials, ensuring EMS is represented equally among the state’s public safety professions.

By state statute, the majority of memorial funding must come from private sources rather than taxpayer dollars. For this reason, we rely on individual donors, unions, EMS agencies, healthcare organizations, and community partners to help move the project forward. Every contribution directly supports the memorial’s design, construction, and long-term preservation.

The foundation is committed to statewide inclusion, transparency, and responsible stewardship. We continue to work closely with EMS leadership, medical directors, tribal advisors, and public safety partners to ensure all fallen EMS providers—regardless of role, agency size, or location—are represented and honored.
