Founded in 1976, the Mississippi Valley Orchestra is an excellent civic orchestra that plays incredible music east and west of the Mississippi River in the Minneapolis - St Paul metro area. Artistic Director, Ho-Yin Kwok, concertmaster Sarah Grimes, along with an array of musical guests including soloists and groups from the Minnesota Orchestra, the University of Minnesota, and other local arts and educational organizations look forward to providing a rewarding musical experience for performing musicians and audiences each year. Every spring MVO plays one movement of a piano concerto with the winner of the St. Paul Piano Teachers Association concerto competition - often the student’s first experience playing with an orchestra.

MVO has achieved a reputation among its partners and supportive, growing audiences for serious music making, and also for sincere collegiality within the orchestra and its all-volunteer yet professional board of directors. We are proud to be the only community orchestra in the area that charges no fixed musician dues or ticket prices – this is possible through generous donations from our musicians and audiences at a level that is affordable for them, to make sure our music is accessible to everyone.

We are so happy to have been able to resume rehearsing and performing together as safely as possible, and connecting to our fantastic arts and music community in Minneapolis/St. Paul! The 2024-25 season celebrates the music of Bao Yuankai in every concert, features a SPPTA piano performance (of course!), wonderful new and returning soloists, and regional and US premieres.
