Help Us Remember the State School Children

Our museum is the only known Orphanage Museum in the nation. Our organization was founded to "Remember the Children" who were placed at the State School between 1886-1945.There were 10,635 of them; kids orphaned, abandoned, or abused and sent to the Minnesota State Public School for Dependent and Neglected Children. For some, it was a circle of hell; for others, a safe haven.

The museum is a one-of-a-kind experience. Thousands have visited and left with a profound appreciation for this of this unique part of Minnesota history. Many others have still never heard the stories, so there is ongoing work for us to do. Our organization is supported solely by donations and runs on a very small budget.

Visitors can explore the Museum, historic Cottage 11, the Children's Cemetery, and interactive campus to get a glimpse of what life was like for the children who called the orphanage their home.
