Minnesota Safety Council Inc

The Minnesota Safety Council is an 83 year-old organization that helps people stay safe at work, on the road, at work, at home, and at play.

Unintentional injuries are the largest cause of death to young people and a primary cause of elders losing their independence.  Unintentional injuries rob Americans of more years of life than any other cause.  They tear apart families, steal our future and cut us down in the prime of life.  Hundreds of thousands of Minnesotans are hurt and more than 1600 die each year from unintentional injuries.  But those injuries don't have to happen.  Most are predictable - and preventable.  That's where the Minnesota Safety Council comes in.

Helping people prevent unintentional inuries is our only focus.  Through education, training and hands-on skills-building, we work with individuals, companies, organizations, families and communities to make ionjury prevent personal and to help people build safe habits that last a lifetime.

Our programs and services include:

Workplace safety and health.  Our classes, seminars and consultation assist employers in developing safety programs, complying with regulations and keeping their workers safe. We offer more than eighty different training topics.

Traffic safety.  We offer both on- and off-the-job traffic programs including defensive driving course, specialized training for truck drivers, school bus drivers and others; the Network of Employers for Traffic Safety (NETS) which provides information and materials to employers for employees and their families; and numerous resources in the area of pedestrian safety and bicycle safety. We also offer online child passenger safety resources at www.CarSeatsMadeSimple.org.

Community safety. The Minnesota Safety Council coordinates Safe Kids Minnesota, a statewide network of individuals and organizations involved in preventing childhood injury.  The coalition provides information and model programs. Our Safe-a-Rooni Web site for kids (www.safe-a-rooni.org) provides engaging online activities supported by information about how to stay safe. We also provide online resources to help prevent falls among older adults, and free print materials on a number of safety topics including fire safety, poison prevention, sports safety, water safety and more. Our Web site, www.minnesotasafetycouncil.org, offers downloadable print resources including safety fact sheets and brochures as well as videos and safety products for children and families.
