The mission of MMEA is to develop, promote, and support equitable and comprehensive music learning and teaching in Minnesota.

VISION: MMEA believes that music is core to the human experience. We support Minnesota Communities by affirming and further developing aesthetic sensitivity, self-expression, and creativity of music learners. MMEA strives for equality and excellence in music education by honoring and preserving lived experiences through intentional and informed practices.

DIRECT STUDENT PROGRAMMING: Elementary "Discover Music" Festivals will return for the 2023-24 school year giving elementary students a chance to dance and sing and discover their voices! (November 2023: Southern MN; April 2024: Twin Cities). MMEA’s All-State Choirs, Bands and Orchestra give Minnesota high school students the chance to learn and grow both musically and personally, then take their learning back to their ensemble music programs.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: The Midwinter Convention is MMEA’s annual professional development convention every February. The state’s largest gathering of music educators features nationally-recognized headliners, a wide variety of performances, sessions from area clinicians, exhibits, and tons of networking.

ADVOCACY: MMEA seeks to provide resources and information to music educators and the community on advocating for music in Minnesota's educational environments.

WHAT DO YOUR DONATION DOLLARS DO FOR MMEA?

We know the last few years have been challenging. You have seen MMEA face those changes too. We have a lot of ground to regain, and we have a lot of ground yet to be broken for our future growth. In 2023, MMEA awarded a total of $31,659.50  in scholarship funds for 57 students to attend All-State Camps. In 2023-2024, MMEA is working to subsidize the return of elementary festival music experiences. General support for MMEA as an organization lets the board choose the focus for how donation dollars are spent.  We, as a collective of educators, need to fund initiatives and professional development that are squarely aimed at the DEIA shift absolutely necessary in our world. Thought leaders need your support to become action leaders. Get involved and donate in any amount to help strengthen your MMEA.  #wearemmea
