Using the Power of History to Transform Lives

The Minnesota Historical Society preserves and shares Minnesota history and creates new and innovative experiences for visitors, students, and communities to tell those stories.

Our network of historic sites and museums is one of the largest and most accessible in the nation and has made MNHS one of the most respected and comprehensive historical societies in the country.

One of these sites, Jeffers Petroglyphs in Comfrey, is home to 5,000 rock carvings that tell the stories of Native American people spanning thousands of years. The site manager, Ronald E. McNair Scholar, David Briese, and his expert staff have created new program offerings for spring 2022, including an evening barefoot tour, an interactive Three Sisters Garden feature that explores Native American agriculture and foodways, and extended interpreted tours of the area where bison rubbed against quartzite for many years to shed their thick winter coats. David describes it as one of the most sacred places on earth.

Donations to the annual fund help MNHS continue to create new and engaging educational experiences like these for students and visitors to our sites. Your support remains as crucial as ever as MNHS strives to serve all of the people of Minnesota by creating powerful engagement with history, to cultivate curiosity and foster a more inclusive, empathetic, and informed society. Your gift of any size to the MNHS Annual Fund will truly make a difference in this important work.
