Support Our Young Blues Musicians in 2020

This year the Minnesota Blues Society has made an investment in the future of young musicians around our state by supporting an innovative music education program, Blues for Kids, with donations raised on Give To The Max Day!

Blues for Kids
Blues for Kids teaches children the joy of Blues music, contributing to the mission of the Minnesota Blues Society: "To educate and promote the past, present and future of Blues music in Minnesota." Blues for Kids workshops are scheduled through schools, community organizations, festivals and events. Workshops are custom designed to meet the needs of any audience and can include guitar, harmonica, piano, vocals, or Blues history. Funds collected on Give to the Max Day will specifically be used to support our most popular workshop, which provides kids with a free harmonica and a free lesson with a professional Blues harmonicist.

About Us

The Minnesota Blues Society was founded in 2002. By the end of 2019, our membership totaled over 700 blues fans and musicians from Minnesota and the surrounding region. As part of its mission, the Minnesota Blues Society holds an annual Minnesota Blues Hall of Fame Ceremony to honor the musicians, composers, authors and individuals who have made an historical contribution and/or impact, and had an overall influence on the Blues in the State of Minnesota. In addition, MnBS is an affiliate of the Blues Foundation in Memphis, Tennessee. Each year, MnBS leads a “Road To Memphis” Competition to select and sponsor a band and solo/duo act to participate in the International Blues Challenge there. MnBS also conducts “Blues For Kids” educational classes to introduce young people to the Blues music genre. As a service to our members, musicians and local venues, MnBS maintains a weekly gig calendar.
