Inspiring Minnesota one cantata at a time!

With vibrant performances of the music of J.S. Bach and his contemporaries, the Minnesota Bach Ensemble is dedicated to directly connecting with its audience through personal and engaging concert experiences.

MBE is a chamber orchestra consisting of some of the finest Twin Cities' musicians led by Artistic Director and Conductor Mischa Santora. Its unique mix of period performance practice on modern instruments electrifies the music of the 18th century, re-capturing its relevance to our time.

MBE performs in the beautiful Antonello Hall in Minneapolis. Mr. Santora and other members of MBE speak during the concert, sharing their passion and knowledge of the music. We seek to engage and enrich the lives of our audiences with these intimate performances, presenting masterworks as well as overlooked gems of the Barqoue repertoire.

23/24 Season MBE enters its second decade!

On November 5 and 6 MBE performed a British Rhapsody with Avison, Boyce and Purcell, peppered with Scarlatti solo harpsichord sonatas performed by Tami Morse. This journey through the British Baroque was an uplifting and energetic collection of pieces - everyone.

On January 21 MBE will feature soloists Basil Reeve on oboe and Käthe Jarka on cello in a program exploring the Bach Family. While they revered their father, each of J.S.’s sons eventually chose their own musical path, helping pave the way for a lighter and more transparent musical style which would come to define the Classical Period. The extended Bach family is a perfect kaleidoscope for viewing these transformative years! left the concert hall in better spirits! It was a perfect way to start off the season.

The celebrate the next ten years, MBE wanted to evoke the powerful and dynamic creative period of the 18th century when the vast majority of music performed was new. On April 6 and 8 MBE's first-ever commission - a modern-day cantata written by Twin Cities' renowned composer (and harpsichordist!) Asako Hirayabashi - will be presented alongside two of Bach's cantatas. Soprano Linh Kauffman and baritone Philip Zawisza will bring these works to life in this unique and exciting program.

Continued support from our donors makes our concerts possible, and we hope you'll consider a donation to help us continue to bring passionate music and inspirational experiences to the Twin Cities.
