With vibrant performances of the music of J.S. Bach and his contemporaries, the Minnesota Bach Ensemble is dedicated to directly connecting with its audience through personal and engaging concert experiences.
MBE is a chamber orchestra consisting of some of the finest Twin Cities' musicians led by Artistic Director and Conductor Mischa Santora. Its unique mix of period performance practice on modern instruments electrifies the music of the 18th century, re-capturing its relevance to our time.
MBE performs in the beautiful Antonello Hall in Minneapolis. Mr. Santora and other members of MBE speak during the concert, sharing their passion and knowledge of the music. We seek to engage and enrich the lives of our audiences with these intimate performances, presenting masterworks as well as overlooked gems of the Barqoue repertoire.
22/23 Season MBE Celebrates 10 years!
MBE launched its 10th Anniversary Season in October with some of the most uplifting instrumental and vocal Baroque music: Handel’s iconic Water Music, Bach’s lovely ode to coffee - the "Coffee Cantata," and select arias and ensembles by Handel, Purcell, and Rameau all celebrating love, beauty, and passion. Soloists were the dynamic vocalists Linh Kauffman, Gary Ruschman, and Philip Zawisza.
On February 26th our program Baroque Visionaries will brighten the winter gloom! Featuring harpsichordist Tami Morse in a piece by Élisabeth Jacquet de La Guerre, flutist Adam Kuenzel in Bach's Orchestral Suite in B minor, and two works by one of MBE's favorite Baroque composers, Jan Dismas Zelenka, this concert will surely uplift the spirit!
On April 22 and 24 MBE concludes its 10th season with Bach's magnificent Brandenburg Concerto No 1 and MBE's first ever performance of Handel's Apollo e Dafne. Soprano Linh Kauffman and baritone Philip Zawisza join us again to perform this glorious work.
Diving into the chamber music of the Baroque era, Tami Morse will perform Isabella Leonarda's violin sonata in D with Jonathan Magness. We're excited to showcase our wonderful and talented MBE musicians!
Continued support from our donors makes our concerts possible, and we hope you'll consider a donation to help us continue to bring passionate music and inspirational experiences to the Twin Cities.
