Minneapolis Sound

A new museum is coming to Minneapolis — one that will finally tell the story of the Minneapolis Sound!

Our mission is to preserve the history, culture, and legacy of this world-renowned music movement.

For too long, the story of how the Minneapolis Sound came to be has never been fully documented or shared. It’s time to honor the artists, the community, and the roots of it all — North Minneapolis — and to ensure that the next generation knows where this sound was born.

The Minneapolis Sound Museum has produced a powerful new documentary capturing how The Way, a former community center in North Minneapolis, became the cornerstone of what would evolve into the Minneapolis Sound genre.

We’re excited to share this film free of charge with the community at the historic Capri Theater in North Minneapolis.

During Give to the Max 2025, our goal is to raise $5,000 to make this event possible — covering the Capri Theater rental and allowing us to celebrate this story with the people who made it happen.

As a thank you, all donations of $100 or more include early entry for a special meet-and-greet with featured guests and an exclusive Minneapolis Sound Swag Bag.
