Fighting Crime and Making Strides in Community Relations

The stars of the Minneapolis Mounted Police are the horses Blue, Buster Cabo, Goliath, Haven, Kristo, Max, Raisin Cane, Rooster, Teak, Trooper, Zeke. The two-legged officers of the mounted patrol don't mind a bit that the four-legged celebrities are the stars at community picnics, national nights out and other special events.

These officer-horse duos are more than just community relations outreach teams, they are real working officers who patrol the city and keep Minneapolis neighborhoods safe. The mounted units do everything other officers do; stop cars, write tickets, and sometimes just their presence deters crime. Being on horseback offers several unique advantages too. The horses are slow-moving and highly visible (up to nine feet high!) which allows for greater crowd control and also makes it easy for people in need of assistance to quickly spot the officers.
