Good Grocer is a nonprofit grocery store located at 27th and Nicollet in South Minneapolis. Our mission is to provide quality food that is both affordable and accessible for all our neighbors. We are a full service grocer with one distinction. We are volunteer-powered. Volunteers are involved in stocking, cashiering, posting prices, and even prepping food in our kitchen. Volunteer support allows our socially-responsible business to reduce operating costs and pass those savings on to all shoppers, including the volunteers who receive a 20% discount.

Additionally, proceeds from all sales are used to help stock the Food Outlet section of the store, where those neighbors who struggle with food insecurity can shop with discounts up to 75% off.

OUR MISSION

Imagine not being able to afford enough food for your family? Sadly, 20 percent of our community faces this reality. Currently, there are over 400 members signed up for our FOOD OUTLET program, that offers additional discounts for those who struggle with food insecurity. Our mission is to provide fresh quality food while building community based upon inclusiveness and dignity.

Good Grocer is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, public benefit charity.  All contributions are tax deductible.  Today we help hundreds of families get food in a more economic way and together we can do more! 

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1. Who volunteers?

People volunteer individually, as couples, teams, and even as organizations!  

Our volunteer community includes two type of participants:

• Those struggling to afford food of adequate quality and/or quantity who need a 20% savings on groceries.
• Those who want to donate their time to help those in need.

2.  What do volunteers do?

Volunteers operate every aspect of our store, including: bagging, stocking, cleaning, cashiering, welcoming, and completing administrative work. 

No experience required. And it's FUN!

3.  Can ANYONE shop at Good Grocer?

YES - anyone can shop with us —All neighbors are welcome! We are not a Co-op. There is no membership involved.

4.  Where does Good Grocer source groceries?

We work with several vendors to provide the freshest and best products for our customers, including UNFI, J&B Meats, The Fish Guys, Russ Davis Produce, and others.  Our inventory is replenished daily ensuring that our foods are always fresh.
