Library and Technology Center
In our modern world, we take access to knowledge for granted. The internet is only a click away. We can read a book or look up a website on any topic we wish. But there are some who lack even the most basic resources for these services. We have a plan to open a library and technology center in La Villa San Antonio, Honduras.
Vision and Need
Create a community library which will be able to sustain itself with local donations and support in 5 years. It will be a welcoming gathering place for people of all ages. It will support early childhood activities, homework and tutoring, and internet access. We want the library to thrive for many years and thus feel it is vital to encourage community involvement from the very first days.
village and surrounding area have a population exceeding 30,000 people, yet
there is no library in the community.
The closest free library is a twenty-minute bus ride and most people lack funds for the bus fare. Public
school budget cuts have forced the closure of school libraries. Many homework
assignments are internet based and students lack access to the internet and
printers; consequently, homework remains incomplete. There are no freely
available resources in the community for homework help or early childhood
programs. There are no freely accessible books, newspapers or magazines in the community and few places for people to gather together for conversation and learning.
Please help us with this project! Even a small donation can help us buy a children's book or provide a day of internet access for a student.
