Justice for all is a right, not a privilege. Legal Aid is critical to ensuring that right.  We provide free legal representation to Minnesotans who lack access to the justice system and cannot afford a private attorney. Our work focuses on people with low incomes, seniors and people with disabilities.

The past 20 months have been unprecedented in Legal Aid’s 108-year history. A global pandemic, widespread housing and economic insecurity, and the uncertainty following the murder of George Floyd and the trial of Derek Chauvin created were destabilizing for everyone. The collective trauma fell heavily on the Black, Indigenous, and People of Color in our community, who have already been impacted by systemic inequities for generations.

Your support makes it possible for everyone in our community to protect and enforce their rights. Legal Aid’s clients represent the strength of our community’s diversity - speaking more than 23 languages, from a wide variety of communities and cultures. However, the fact that 56% of Legal Aid’s clients are people of color, compared to only 16% of Minnesota’s population, shows the disproportionate harms that we all need to confront and change.

Throughout the challenges of the last 20 months, Legal Aid not only continues to serve communities most harmed, but we are also bringing services directly into the community. This year, we deployed a new justice bus and worked with our community partners to bring legal kiosks to Minnesotans right in their communities. Despite Legal Aid’s success, there is much more work to do, and we need your help.

As someone who knows the importance of home, community, and justice, now is the time for us to come together and help our neighbors. Join us in the fight for stable housing, safety from abuse, access to food and affordable health care, and caring for seniors and people with disabilities in our community.

The fight for equal justice needs every one of us. These events have reinforced the value of home, the need to help our neighbors, and the urgency of realizing equal justice for all. As we have done for over 100 years, we are making a difference in the communities we serve in a time of crisis.

We know these are challenging times for all of us. In this time of need, we ask you to make a gift to support us in protecting the basic needs of our most vulnerable friends and neighbors. Every gift is important, and every penny counts.

A gift of $75 helps a child avoid hunger; $150 helps a senior caught in a predatory scam; $300 stops an unlawful eviction and saves a family home.

We serve 20 counties in Minnesota from our offices in Minneapolis, St. Cloud and Willmar, and serve people with disabilities statewide.
