Measure the Placenta

A nonprofit organization

$250 raised by 3 donors

Measure the Placenta is an all-volunteer patient advocacy group pushing for increased placental monitoring during pregnancy.

Mission: To educate and advocate for routine placental measurements as a path toward elevating prenatal care standards and preventing stillbirth by increasing awareness, engaging healthcare providers, and sharing evidence‑based research.

Vision: Measure and monitor every placenta to improve birth outcomes

Our purpose is to instruct and train the public about how placental size is a measurable risk factor in pregnancy by:

  1. increasing awareness and engagement among clinicians about the life-saving potential of routine placental measurements

  2. supporting families seeking answers after pregnancy loss or complications

  3. empowering families to advocate for comprehensive care

  4. providing the medical community with an archive of published evidence-based research linking very small or very large placenta size to stillbirth and other adverse outcomes

We are families who have experienced stillbirth due to an undetected abnormal placenta size and families who learned their living baby survived a very small placenta. We have joined with concerned citizens, researchers and providers in recognizing the opportunity to save lives today by incorporating placental measurement and monitoring into standard prenatal care.

Measure the Placenta was formed in 2019 and became a nonprofit in 2025.
