MacPhail Makes Connections

At MacPhail Center for Music, playing music as part of a group builds connections and creates a sense of belonging. This Give to the Max Day, your donation gives the gift of community.

Anyone who wants to participate in a group can find their home at MacPhail. Many of these groups are tuition free — help us to continue to offer fun, rewarding group opportunities for all ages and backgrounds by making a gift on Give to the Max Day.

Many of our group learning opportunities are tuition-free or low cost for students, including MacPhail Northside Youth Orchestra, MacPhail Community Youth Choir and Austin CommUNITY Choir. These, as well as many other group instruction opportunities, are an important part of music education: when we play music together, the magic of music is unlocked.

  • MacPhail Northside Youth Orchestra: Tuition-free symphonic orchestra program in North Minneapolis focused on creating a welcoming space that encourages musical growth and development.
  • MacPhail Community Youth Choir: Brings together youth in grades 6-12 throughout the Twin Cities area for music and friendship. The choir is led by Twin Cities artist J.D. Steele, who brings his dynamic style and passion for music to the group, which is free and open to students of all skill levels and talents.
  • Austin CommUNITY Choir: This adult choir sings and performs music from all genres. Members also have small group opportunities to serve the community through song.
