Giving with Purpose, Protecting with Passion

Minnesota Lakes and Rivers Protection and Education is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to safeguarding Minnesota’s lakes, rivers, and watersheds for current and future generations.

Through science-based programs, public education, and community advocacy, we help Minnesotans organize protect the cultural and ecological vitality of our waters. 56% of our waters are impaired, so we need a united base of advocates!

Your support helps us continue this crucial work, tackle emerging issues, and sustain local conservation efforts that build civic pride and deepen our connection to our waters. Minnesota Lakes and Rivers supports science, education, and advocacy to protect and preserve natural waters in the Land of 10,000 Lakes.

Our programs include the Lake Steward Program, the Minnesota Natural Shoreline Partnership, the Stop Starry Program, the AIS Boundary Waters Collaborative, Project WET (Water Education Today) and the Emily Mine Information Group (EMIG).

Here's our approach

Science

We believe that scientific research is the bedrock of protection for our lakes and rivers. Your contribution supports independent research on topics like recreational boating, aquatic invasive species, and shoreline degradation, so we can learn the problems of today to identify tomorrow's solutions

Education

We educate lake-home and cabin owners, youth, and lake users on pressing issues and solution strategies to create a more informed and active base of lake and river stewards. Your contribution helps us provide guidance and public awareness as well as train volunteers and leaders to give communities the tools and knowledge to restore shorelines, tackle invasive species, and address water quality issues.

Advocacy

With an informed and activated base of lake advocates across the state, anything is possible for our waters. Your contribution helps us unite all stakeholders — local communities, state agencies, businesses, Tribal governments, and more — to find just solutions. Because these solutions are community-driven and formed on consensus, our programs create lasting environmental change.
