Something magic happens when you're outside and active. Whether that's trail running, skiing, orienteering, paddling, mountain biking, hiking, roller skiing, or just having fun outside--it's a way to learn more about yourself; a way to improve your physical and mental wellbeing; and, it's a chance to change what you think is possible. And, today, we're seeing more than ever how important outdoor activity is to our societal wellbeing.
The Loppet Foundation's goal is to get people outside and active, and to create passion for year-round outdoor adventure in the Minneapolis area, focusing on underserved youth and families.
Since our start in 2002, we've built a community brought together by a shared passion for the outdoors. A community that invests in our children, our parks, ourselves, and each other. A community that makes sure that everyone—of any background, age, or ability—can be part of the adventure.
Last year, more than 20,000 people experienced the outdoors through our year-round events, classes, clubs, and nationally ranked racing team. More than 2,000 kids got outside and active through our youth programming, including more than 1,300 kids from underserved communities in the North Minneapolis.
We also make sure there are great spaces for people to be active outside. In partnership with the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board, we maintain and improve miles of mountain bike and ski trails, and plant hundreds of trees in Theodore Wirth Park, our home base. And, we operate The Trailhead—a new home base for trail running, mountain biking, skiing, orienteering, snowshoeing, par 3 golf, and more—in Wirth Park, where the building is the catalyst for expanded youth programming, and greater connection between the park and our surrounding neighborhoods.
We hope you'll join us for the adventure!
